LOS MAPAS HISTÓRICOS EN LA ENSEÑANZA DE LA HISTORIA

A project dedicated to studying the narrative representations of the transformations of the Argentine national territory in its confirmation as a nation in 1810 in school books and students.

The project "Producción y consumo de mapas históricos: representaciones del territorio nacional en los libros de texto y en las narrativas históricas de sujetos de distintas provincias argentinas", is directed by Cristian Parellada with a funding of 5000 euros. Type of project: PICT-2020-SERIEA-I-INVI (young researchers), of the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion of Argentina.

The main objective of the project is to understand how the transformations that have taken place in the Argentinean national territory throughout its conformation as a nation since 1810 are represented both in textbooks and in the narratives of students of different ages. To this end, the research draws mainly on three lines of research: 1) sociocultural psychology; 2) the contributions of the critical history of cartography; and 3) research on the teaching and learning of history.

Were the territorial dimensions of a nation-state always the same or did they change over the years, and how are these changes represented in school textbooks?

How are the boundaries of the national territory understood in the past?

What elements present in historical maps in school textbooks are associated with the territorial silhouette that allows us to recognise the territory of a country today?

What relationships are established between textbook maps and students' historical narratives?
